Co-Creating Culture and Urban Innovation With Communities Through Active Participation

The workshop focuses on SPAZIO MATTA, a cultural hub born in 2011 in Pescara’s former slaughterhouse, now a permanent laboratory for multidisciplinary arts in a strategic urban periphery. SPAZIO MATTA demonstrates a replicable model of urban regeneration: its actions connect public and private institutions, educational organizations, and third‑sector actors to form a network capable of revitalizing existing urban spaces, creating new ones, and fostering social interaction. Artistic and cultural languages—performing arts, visual arts, multimedia—serve as powerful connectors and communication channels to engage communities. Participants will explore how SPAZIO MATTA combines multidisciplinary programming, residencies, and social inclusion initiatives to co‑create culture, develop hybrid engagement methodologies, and transform urban areas into vibrant, socially activated districts.
