Designing the Commission of Tomorrow

Against the backdrop of turbulent times, financial restraint, the AI revolution and apparent “permacrises”, the European Commission’s civil service is taking the opportunity to re-imagine itself. The goal: to re-set the Commission’s structures and processes and revitalise its people and culture to remake a “creative bureaucracy” fit for the future.

This presentation unpacks the key drivers behind this once-in-a-generation transformation exercise and explores the dilemmas, tensions and trade-offs involved in driving change and innovation within a large multinational public service. It also shares key learnings from the creative, open and inclusive process being followed at the European Commission, while looking ahead to what may come next.
