Mariam has served as one of the youngest elected officials in the UK since 2018. She represents the Labour Party as a Councillor representing Manor Park, Newham, the UK's most ethnically diverse Borough. Mariam is a passionate advocator for local people, ensuring that Council policies are inclusive of the communities she represents. Mariam is also a Strategy and Communications Consultant, working on projects ranging from arts and culture to projects with international NGOs such as the United Nations. Mariam recently worked with the UK Government Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office's Gender and Inclusivity Unit, assessing FCDO/United Nations development projects across the global South in accordance with UN Sustainable Development Goals and human rights treaties. She holds a BA degree in Liberal Arts with a Major in Politics from King's College London and a master's degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
