Lorenz Maroldt

Lorenz Maroldt is a Berlin-based German journalist, editor and publisher. He studied economics and political science in Berlin and began his career as a freelance writer for taz and FAZ. In 1994, he joined Der Tagesspiegel, becoming Deputy Editor-in-Chief in 2001, Editor-in-Chief in 2004 and Publisher in 2025.
 

Maroldt is the founder and long-time host of “Tagesspiegel Checkpoint”, one of Germany’s best-known metropolitan newsletters. He regularly moderates conferences and public debates with leading figures from politics, business and culture. He is also the author and co-author of several books published by Ullstein and Suhrkamp, including works on Berlin, education and urban culture such as Berlin in 100 Chapters, of Which Only 13 Were Finished and Berliner Inseln.
