Albert Jan has had his heart set on public affairs for over 20 years. As an action researcher an co-founder at the Institute for Public Values, he is committed to a culture in which ‘we the people’ regain ownership of our shared problems and solutions. He is also a huge advocate of the ‘inequality principle’. Albert Jan has a high opinion of our welfare state, but does not shy away from fanatically deconstructing and disrupting our bureaucracy. For him, loyalty and criticism are closely linked. As a student of Tocqueville (for which he obtained his doctorate in 2010), he knows that democratic experiences and direct forms of solidarity are necessary to maintain and preserve our democracy.
