Safecity: A Crowdmap For Sexual and Gender-Based Violence

Safecity was launched 11 years ago as an immediate response to the gangrape of Jyoti Singh on a bus in Delhi. The aim was to provide a safe space to anonymously document sexual and gender based violence. The personal incidents are collated as location based patterns and trends, making what is currently invisible and under-reported visible and bridging the official datagap. Today, Safecity has data from 86 countries, is available in 15 languages and over 1.5 million citizens have been engaged in safer cities programming alongwith police and city officials.
