The Creative Bureaucracy Festival 2020

Episode III: Creativity strikes back

THE 2020 CHALLENGE – A DIGITAL FESTIVAL

Doing a festival in times of a pandemic? Yes please! From September 28 to October 2, 2020 more than 400 speakers and 15,000 unique visitors met virtually on three virtual stages for more than 180 sessions.

We had a blast with our weeklong festival full of bureaucratic imagination. Our program was jam-packed with new ideas, fresh insights, and pride in what the public sector can accomplish. As every year, our goal was to create spaces for exchange, to show examples of bureaucracy at its best, and not least to help people have fun – not in spite of being bureaucrats but because they are.

The festival took place 100% virtually. It was accessible to public servants and their allies all across the world. And we spread it out over five days to accommodate participants’ schedules in the best way. In case you’ve missed the festival or missed out on a few sessions you still want to see: Watch the recordings right below the session details in the program.

Zugleich geraten angestammte Industrien Deutschlands…

Designing for a Sustainable Planet B

If one thing is clear in our crisis-ridden world, it’s that we need to replace our extractive economic models with alternatives that better reflect how the universe and humanity actually work. But what would such a utopian ‘human economy’ look like in practice? What does it really take to bring…

Is Gentlyfication a Blind Alley?

In urban development, gentrification is often met with suspicion. Though promising, the process of gentrification goes hand in hand with alienation and forced displacement. This session questions whether ‘gentlyfication’ can be the answer to potential negative effects of gentrification measures. Gentlyfication approaches market forces from a different vantage point, proposing…
