Peter Teesink is the City Clerk of Amsterdam. He is the primary advisor to ‘het college van B & W’; the Mayor and Municipal Executive, and he is ultimately responsible for services in the city. He also represents the city of Amsterdam in various regional, national and European matters. As the most senior civil servant, the City Clerk is responsible for maintaining links between the civil service, the board and society. As such, he works closely with the city administrators, the civil service, the city council and partner organisations both inside and outside the city.

The City Clerk fulfils the following roles:

  • Primary advisor to the College of Mayor and Alderpersons
  • General Manager of the City of Amsterdam
  • Director of the Administrative Service
  • Representative of the City of Amsterdam.
Peter Teesink started his career at the former Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and Environmental Protection (VROM), where he held various managerial positions. In 1997 he switched to the City of Groningen, where he served as General Director for the social domain, and as City Clerk from 2014 to 2018. Peter Teesink studied business administration at the University of Twente.
