From Deadlock to Delivery: Can Better Governance Save Liberal Democracies?

One of the fundamental crisis facing modern liberal democracies is a widening gap between high-minded policy intent and tangible, material results. This failure to deliver that ranges from housing and infrastructure to essential public services, stems partly from a systemic erosion of state capacity. Machinery of government has become increasingly sclerotic, outdated and buried under layers of administrative friction. 

This session explores through different country experiences, how deteriorating state capacity is putting democracy at risk. Furthermore, it provides concrete examples of novel approaches to governance which aim to restore state capacity and put new modalities of democracy in place.
