Mallam Aliyu Auwal

Aliyu Auwal is the Head of Communications for the Waste Pickers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN) and an environmental and project management professional working at the intersection of circular economy innovation, public systems, and informal sector inclusion in Nigeria. He is part of the team leading WaPDiT (Waste Picker Digitalization & Trust Initiative), a digital platform transforming how informal waste pickers are recognized and integrated into public waste management systems in Kano State. Through his work, Aliyu collaborates with government agencies, private sector actors, and local communities to strengthen inclusive waste governance, improve livelihoods for marginalized workers, and advance data-driven environmental solutions. His work focuses on using technology, collaboration, and participatory governance to build more sustainable and inclusive public systems.
