A creative polymath, Lia Ghilardi has worked for more than twenty years with civic leaders, city networks, civic societies, housing developers and cultural organizations to provide creative and integrated solutions to the challenges of contemporary place making. She uses creative thinking techniques to help cities and government organisations to clarify their strategies and vision for the future. She works with interdisciplinary teams because she strongly believes that the complexity of today’s urban environment requires multiple solutions from different socio-economic-cultural-urban spheres (the ‘wisdom of crowds’). An inspiring public speaker, she lectures regularly on creative thinking and urban DNA mapping methods in universities across Europe and in the UK. She is a member of the Academy of Urbanism, a network of influential thinkers, professionals and decision makers passionate about a better living for people in towns and cities, and also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Let’s put heads and hearts together! An interactive session to learn and practice Creative Thinking Techniques
The pandemic has been a turning point for many people – they want to be more in control of their lives, take different career paths, make different choices in terms of where they live. The same is true for organisations or cities – those in charge are increasingly under pressure to make a choice between saving lives or the economy.
In her session Lia Ghilardi will argue that these are false dilemmas. When faced with choices we are simply not primed to systematically explore multiple possibilities, but we can all train our brains to think more creatively.
Through interactive play, she will offer a choice of creative thinking techniques. As an example, you will learn to apply Paradox thinking and Provocation techniques to help you move from ‘what is’ to ‘what if. The 6 Hats technique will be introduced as a tool for improving decision making; mediating between opposite/different points of view; and negotiating solutions.
