Equality and Equity

Many might consider the world around us to be a neutral canvas. But every design choice, conscious or otherwise, embeds certain perspectives and bias – in our physical and digital infrastructures, products and services, and far beyond. Creative Bureaucrats are striving towards a more equitable world by questioning such assumptions, surfacing unheard voices, and inviting systemic redesigns through new lenses.

Reinforcing Unheard Voices in the City (Fri, 17 Sep, 12:00-13:00): In this session we hear from pioneers who are experimenting with approaches to tackling the root causes of inequity in our cities – from both a governance and community level. This session is part of our 5-part series in partnership with the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt’s ‘RISE Cities’ programme.

Administrations with a Focus on Diversity (Wed, 15 Sep, 15:00-15:30): As the largest employer in Germany, the public administration should reflect diversity within its own structures. This wouldn’t just make it a role model in shaping an inclusive and diverse working world: diversity is also a crucial building block for a modern and sustainable administration. But how can we make this the reality within everyday administrative life?

Democracy at Work – Employers as Engines of the Common Good in Times of Hate Speech and Conspiracy Theories (Wed, 15 Sep, 15:30-16:00): Corporate training formats often avoid political topics and do not offer any engagement with digital threats such as hate speech, disinformation and conspiracy myths. Our panel discusses how this works and what energetic companies can do to strengthen democracy.
