Urban prototyping: Small places for big change by Parkly

Päivi Raivio

2022 English Public Infrastructures & Space

How can small places be a window to the future cities? How to connect people to places and nature? How to increase participation through places? This session gives an insight on the creative thinking and methodology needed to create real change in an urban setting through public spaces. Inspiring and visual place stories take the participants on a journey to future cities which we can already start making now.

Parkly is founded by placemakers and urban designers to fast track sustainable urban change. The modular, circular outdoor furniture solution is not just a product, together with people it forms a place. The concept is based on the idea of real life prototyping and experiments, designed to be a counterforce for the slow city planning processes. Parkly is a collaborative platform for citizens, planners and designers to co-design and test ideas for better public places for all.

Päivi Raivio
