New trends and developments around us influence and change the way we do policymaking in Europe. Due to the complexity of the issues, solving the challenges of the 21st century will require joined-up, innovative and future-oriented policymaking. In this session, we show you the approach of the European Commission, and the way it prepares its policymakers for the future.

We discuss the new skills and knowledge we consider most relevant based on extensive consultations. We share our experience with initiatives that worked in our case and contributed to an increased uptake in policymaking relevant learning, as well as to a change in the organisational culture to stimulate learning, innovation and collaboration.

Viktória Kovacs

Viktoria is the project leader of the EU Policymaking Hub project of the European Commission, a comprehensive programme aiming to equip EU policymakers with future relevant knowledge. Before joining the Secretariat-General of the European Commission, she has explored the different angles of EU policymaking in the economics, competition and budget departments of the European Commission. Prior to that, Viktoria worked as an economist in the international and in the monetary policy unit of the Hungarian central bank. She holds a master’s degree in economics from the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany.

Tanya Verrier

Director of Transparency, Efficiency and Resources / Secretariat-General, European Commission

Tanya Verrier is a Director in the Secretariat-General of the European Commission. She is in charge of transparency and good governance policy in the Commission. Tanya is also in charge of the EU Policymaking Hub, a professional development programme for policymaking staff in the Commission.
Before joining the Secretariat-General in 2016, she worked in the Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition in various roles including leading antitrust investigations in the area of financial services and banking. She led a strategy unit in charge of implementing the Better Regulation Agenda in DG Competition. Earlier she also led a communication and inter-institutional relations unit. Before joining the Commission in 2008, Tanya acted as an expert and advisor to the Commission in the area of financial services.
Tanya is an economist by training. She holds an MBA and a PhD in finance.
