Patient-Focused Procurement: How Do You Do It in Health?

Brian Holch Kristensen

2023 Collaboration & Communication English Public Infrastructures & Space

Large scale implementation of innovation in health care in the Capital Region, Denmark. Not just finding our own solution at one hospital an trying to scale it from there, but with regional power, gather around the problems that need to be fixed and find partners internally and mostly externally to co-create the scaled solution. We are right now tendering a problem around new single room wards at many new hospitals in Denmark with the title: create coherence in single room wards – nothing about the solution space, only requirement is that both the nurse overview and job satisfaction is increased.”

Brian Holch Kristensen

Head of Innovation / Bispebjerg & Frederiksberg Hospital, Capital Region

MSc in atomic physics, Medical Physics Expert and now Chief Innovation Officer at Bispebjerg Hospital. Previously Chief Physicist and leading innovation within personalized radiotherapy with the introduction of the MR-linac and AI driven radiotherapy. Now, in a more general position as CIO for an entire hospital working with many themes within innovation, ranging from devices, living labs and AI governance.

A new hospital is being built on campus leading to new and innovative ways of smart working around the patient with help of wireless devices, digitization and patient involvement. During the first outbreak of COVID-19 I was part of the Danish Government’s national taskforce to acutely start up national production of articles needed to handle the virus. This was done in tight collaboration with many industrial partners and national authorities to get products like PPE, ventilators and lab tools on the market fast. Need driven innovation.
