The more complex and uncertain a policy issue is, the more useful it is to approach it through humility. In this session, Nordic think tank Demos Helsinki presents the principles of Humble Governance and explores how governments can be better equipped to deal with present and future crises by leveraging humility.
You’ll hear examples of a Humble Governance approach in practice:
– How Finland built its renowned education system
– How the State of California ended up tightening standards for vehicle emissions globally; and
– How the Montreal Protocol was designed to protect the ozone layer
Humble Governance is an idea that Demos Helsinki developed in a recent collaboratation with the Prime Minister’s Office of Finland and Prof. Charles Sabel from Columbia Law School. It is an approach to the policy-making process that aims to renew how governments steer and regulate societies through collaboration and iteration.
