This session will present the Decidim free software project and how its community is building a durable digital commons that provide institutions with the tools to build complex participatory processes that will shape public policy. The growing adoption of these tools by cities, regions, states and the European Union is changing the way bureaucracy process citizen input.
Initiated by Barcelona in 2016, Decidim is a project to deepen and transform participatory democracy through the design and implementation of a digital platform.
Based on principles of equality, transparency, traceability and data integrity, Decidim provides the democratic guarantees that are essential to any “civic tech” project. Open to collaboration, Decidim is a 100% open source software. Its code is freely available for consultation and use on Github.
